How to Choose a Free Zone in the UAE: 7 Questions to Ask

There are dozens of UAE free zones. Use these seven questions to narrow down the right one for your activity, visas and budget.

The UAE has many free zones across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and other emirates. Each has its own rules, activity list, packages and fees. Rather than asking “which is the best free zone?”, ask which one fits your business.

1. Is your activity allowed?

Each zone approves specific activities. Check that your exact activity is on the zone’s list before anything else.

2. How many visas do you need?

Packages include a set number of visas, and more can be added subject to office space. Plan for your first year of hiring.

3. What office type is required?

Options range from a flexi-desk to a private office or warehouse. Some activities, such as trading with storage, need more space.

4. Will you trade inside the UAE?

If you need to sell directly to UAE customers, ask whether the zone offers a dual licence or whether you need a separate mainland arrangement.

5. Will your bank accept it?

Banks look at activity, ownership, and the zone itself. We help match your structure with banks that fit your profile.

6. What are the total costs?

Compare the full cost, not only the licence fee: visas, medicals, Emirates ID, renewals, office and service charges. We prepare an itemised comparison.

7. How fast do you need to start?

Some zones process faster than others, and remote onboarding is possible for many. Tell us your timeline.
